About Us

The UAL Mission: “We believe our patients are the most valuable members of our health care “team.” We are committed to provide our highest level of care and compassion for every patient, in every patient encounter. Our patients deserve our attention, respect, and understanding. Each patient will be treated with dignity by members of our health care team and we will strive to provide optimal health care services and urological services while caring for each person as an individual with physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

Urological Associates of Lancaster, ("UAL") as we know it today is the result of a long history of bringing about the right group of physicians beginning in 1946. As the group looks toward the future, they are also glancing backwards to see how far medicine has evolved. With the development of technological advances the practice of urology has gone from a surgical specialty to a specialty that has utilized the development and advancement of non-invasive procedures.

The doctors have incorporated several philosophies in their work ethic: only hire a doctor to work in our practice if it is a physician that you would go to or would send a family member for treatment. Select hard working doctors with a first-class, superior work ethic and communicate with the patients in detail and give them all the options for treatment.

Dr. Ian Hodge opened the first urology practice in Lancaster on Duke and James Streets after World War II. He was the first board certified urologist in Lancaster County. In 1964 Dr. Henry Huffnagle joined Dr. Hodge. Dr. Huffnagle was born and raised in Quarryville, Lancaster County and therefore it made sense to him to return to practice his profession in his home town. Also, in the same year, Dr. C. Edward Pohl came to Lancaster and began a urology practice. Again he was returning to his roots, after obtaining his education; one of his draws to Lancaster was that his father was a family physician in the Manheim area. Dr. Pohl was in solo practice until 1973, when he joined Drs. Hodge and Huffnagle and the practice became known as Urological Associates of Lancaster.

As we look to the future, we will continue to offer quality services using the latest technology. We welcome you to our website as well as to our Practice. If we can be assistance to you in any way, please do not hesitate to contact us.
